1. Summary
Sortella does not collect personal data, create user accounts, show advertising, perform cross-app tracking, or send your photos to a developer-operated server. The app’s photo grouping and curation records are handled on your device.
2. Photos library access
With your permission, Sortella accesses photos and videos visible through Apple’s PhotoKit framework. It may process the following information to provide its features:
- photos, videos, Live Photos, and screenshots;
- capture dates and media types;
- embedded location coordinates, when present;
- Favorite status and your in-app keep selections.
This information is used to display your library, group items by time and place, select Favorites to keep by default, remember curation progress, and request changes you initiate. Sortella does not use it for advertising, analytics, profiling, or tracking.
3. Information stored on your device
Sortella stores curation progress, history, and display preferences locally in the app’s storage on your device. This information is not transmitted to the developer and normally remains until you delete the app or erase the device.
If you enable curation reminders, Sortella also stores photo identifiers, pending item identifiers, notification identifiers, and the last reminder time locally to recognize new items and limit reminder frequency. Reminders are local iOS notifications. The Home Screen widget uses group titles, dates, item counts, and photo previews stored in a shared container on your device, accessible to Sortella and its widget extension. None of this information is sent to the developer.
4. Apple system services
Sortella relies on Apple platform services:
- iCloud Photos and PhotoKit: if an item is stored in iCloud, Apple may use the network to retrieve it for display or editing.
- Apple location services: Sortella may ask Apple’s geocoding service to turn coordinates already embedded in a photo into a readable place name.
- Photos deletion confirmation: requests to delete items are presented through Apple’s system interface and require your confirmation.

5. Data sharing and third parties

6. Your choices and controls
You can grant Full Access or Limited Access to Photos, change the selected photos, or revoke access at any time in iOS Settings under Privacy & Security › Photos › Sortella. You can review all keep selections before completing a group. Deletion requires the iOS system confirmation, and recoverability is managed by Apple Photos through the Recently Deleted album.
You can turn curation reminders off in Sortella settings or change notification permission in iOS Settings. The widget can show photo previews on your Home Screen; remove it if you do not want those previews visible.
7. Children’s privacy
Sortella is not specifically directed to children and does not knowingly collect personal data from anyone, including children.
8. Security
Keeping app data on the device reduces transmission risk. Security of the device, iCloud Photos, and Apple platform services is also controlled by your device settings and Apple account protections.
