Why does Sortella need Photos access?
Sortella needs read and write access to show your library, create on-device groups, remember your choices, and request deletion of unselected items after you confirm. You can grant full access or select a limited set of photos in iOS Settings.
Does Sortella upload my photos?
No. Sortella does not upload photos or curation records to a developer-operated server. If an item is stored in iCloud Photos but not downloaded, Apple Photos may use the network to retrieve it for display.
How are groups created?
Sortella uses capture time and embedded location information available in your photo library. Recent photos can remain in a “Forming” group for up to two hours after the newest photo, helping a single photo-taking session stay together.
Keeping and removing photos
Does Sortella decide what I should delete?
No. Sortella is keep-first: you choose the items that matter. It does not score photo quality or make automatic keep-or-delete recommendations.
Are Favorites selected to keep by default?
Yes. Photos marked as Favorites in Apple Photos start selected to keep. You can deselect them before completing a group.
When are unselected items deleted?
Only after you finish a group and approve Apple’s iOS confirmation prompt. Deleted items normally move to the Recently Deleted album in Photos, where Apple controls recovery and permanent deletion.
Where are kept items saved?
In Sortella settings, choose whether to keep selected items in the photo library, create a new album, add them to an existing album, or choose each time. These choices set the destination for kept items; unselected items still require Apple’s deletion confirmation.
How do curation reminders work?
Enable reminders in Sortella settings and allow notifications. Reminders require full Photos access, count newly added photos and videos after you enable them, and notify after at least 50 unhandled new items, at most once in 24 hours. iOS decides when background checks run, so they may be delayed; opening the app also checks for new items.
How do I add the Home Screen widget?
Open Sortella and allow Photos access, then return to the Home Screen. Touch and hold an empty area, choose Edit or +, add a widget, and search for Sortella. The widget shows a pending group and photo preview; tap it to continue curation. Widget updates are scheduled by iOS.
Troubleshooting
- Some photos are missing: open Settings › Privacy & Security › Photos › Sortella and review whether access is Full or Limited.
- A thumbnail is loading: keep the device online if the original is stored in iCloud Photos.
- Location labels are unavailable: older images or screenshots may not contain location metadata, and Apple’s location-name service may require a network connection.
- A group still says Forming: wait until two hours have passed since its newest item.
Before contacting support: include your iOS version, Sortella version, and a short description of what happened. Please do not attach private photos unless they are necessary to explain the issue.
